• Discovered around 1530 by a German scientist

• Relatively common found in countries such as the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Norway, Mongolia, Russia, Spain, Italy, South Africa, China & so many more

• It is a calcium fluoride also considered a Halide mineral

• Can be found in sedimentary deposits such as limestone & carbonates, in igneous deposits such as granites & syenite inclusions & more commonly in hydrothermal veins

• Fluorite has many industrial uses such as in the production of hydrofluoric acid, used as a flux in materials such as glass and ceramics as well as a flux in the oil and gas drilling process & in the production of high quality lenses

• Regardless of it’s many uses, it is still a more delicate mineral with a Mohs hardness of 4

• Sunlight, water & salinity is not recommended

• Yooperlite was discovered in 2017 in the northern peninsula of Michigan therefore it is a relatively new stone still
• It is estimated to be a billion years old
• You can rockhound Yooperlite legally in Michigan in certain collection zones around Lake Superior
• Mostly known as “Yooperlite”, but also referred to as “Glowdalite”
• People who live in the northern peninsula of Michigan are called “Yoopers” ultimately giving the stone it’s name “Yooperlite”
• Yooperlite is a Syenite Clast containing fluorescent Sodalite
• Yooperlite usually displays gray and black tones with tints of orange throughout
• The sodalite in the Yooperlite absorbs the radiation from UV lights and emits them into longer wavelengths causing it to appear to glow
• It estimated that the unique geology of the area as well as glacial activity have an impact on its formation process
• It has a Mohs Hardness of 5
• Water exposure is safe
