Geology: 

 • Ocean Jasper is a variety of Orbicular Jasper found in Madagascar in 1990

• Mining conditions were tricky as it was only accessible by boat at low tide located on a cliff edge

• There have been 8 unique veins discovered in Marovato

• There were two new pockets found while mining out the eighth vein, however it is not a reasonable enough amount to classify as it’s own vein therefore there is a relatively new type referred to as “Veinless Ocean Jasper”

• Classified as a Jasper it has been found to share similarities with Chalcedony as well based on recent studies. This is due to its agate formation with chalcedony inclusions, resulting in unique spherical patterns known as Orbicular patterning

• Not every specimen will have the highly sought after orbs, instead it can consist of swirls, specks, lines and smudges of mixed colors

• Ranges in colors from green, pink, white, black, orange, red and yellow

• This unique stone is very limited & valuable due to veins being depleted, however it is possible new deposits like Veinless may be discovered

• Mohs hardness 6.5-7

• Unlike most gemstones, Ocean Jasper can withstand long term water exposure

• Avoid long term heat & sunlight
